You help ensure that NO INDIVIDUAL OR FAMILY IS ALONE on their mental health journey. You help provide a network of support and resources, both online and in your community.
Humans crave connection. Feeling accepted for who you truly are can give you validation and self-worth. Knowing there are people who support you and will be there for you when you’re struggling provides a sense of safety. And knowing you’re needed, that you have a purpose, reminds you that you are valued. The NAMI Montgomery County PA community provides all these qualities and more.
We provide updated information, resources and support to all in need.
- We educate those living with mental illness, their families as well as the general public about mental illness.
- We promote hope and recovery at all times.
- We continue to seek better treatment for mental illnesses and to eliminate the stigma associated with them.
- We work to develop a strong, coherent system that offers a continuum of care that includes all that is needed for a full life in the community.
- We build a community where No One is Alone.
Personal Impact, Melissa’s Story….
Melissa was feeling what many feel when supporting a loved one with mental illness; self-isolation, shame and uncertainty. One late night she sat on her computer googling “mental health” and “mental health supports in my area.” NAMI Montgomery County PA was identified in her google search. Little did Melissa know how her life would change by sending an email sharing her need for support.
The next morning Melissa woke up to hope. An email from NAMI Montgomery County PA had already appeared in her inbox and immediately she felt a huge weight lifting and she knew she had someone in her corner. Melissa grabbed on to every piece of education and support offered through NAMI MontCoPA. She attended a Family Support Group and the evidenced based Family to Family class series. Being part of these groups and classes afforded Melissa understanding and a connection with others to know she isn’t alone. She also learned about mental illness so that she could better understand her husband’s illness, symptoms, and how to best communicate with him. Through these experiences she could feel herself changing from fearful and anxious to feeling stronger, both physically and mentally, and empowered.
The Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center, the only year-round, 24/7, emergency housing service for single adults experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County, is a partnership between Montgomery County’s Office of Behavioral Health and Resources for Human Development. CHOC serves homeless adult men and women in Montgomery County. CHOC’s two wings include a day center where clients can meet with a caseworker, receive their mail, wash their clothes, apply for benefits, or attend group meetings; the smaller wing is a 50- to 80-bed overnight shelter. In addition to emergency shelter, CHOC provides street outreach, service counseling, transportation, rapid rehousing, meals, clothing, life skills and benefits counseling.
Due to overwhelming demand for services, CHOC is moving into a new facility that will provide expanded services and a safe, welcoming space. Help us help CHOC continue to provide these life changing services.
